Full Mouth Restorations with Dr. Robson

Are you missing multiple teeth and want the best solution to restore your smile to it’s original beauty? Dentures, partials, and implant-supported dentures are often the best solution for these cases, wherein they can fully replace a full arch of teeth, or just a few missing teeth. Take a look below at the options available at Robson Family Dental for patients looking to enjoy their confident smiles again.

Dentures

Removable dentures are the most commonly used of the denture options out there. They often encompass a full arch of teeth, and can contain only teeth, or teeth encased in a gums-colored acrylic.

Removable dentures can be made relatively quickly, and are easy to maintain. They can be removed for brushing and must be submerged in a solution overnight to keep them clean. Dentures are a quick way to help restore the appearance and functionality of your smile. However, they can require frequent replacement as the shape of the arch can change.

Partial Dentures

Partial dentures are not a full arch of artificial teeth, but contain individual or groups of teeth to fill in gaps that may be far apart or on opposite sides of an arch. Partial dentures have a similar construction to full dentures, and are often “clipped in” or secured through support on other neighboring teeth.

Implant-Supported Dentures

For those looking for a more permanent solution, they can look towards implant-supported dentures. These devices combine the best of both dental implants and dentures. They are full-arch replacements that are permanently supported on implant fixtures placed in the jawbone, with all the natural feeling that comes with it.

As such, these devices may take a little longer to create and place, but patients can rest assured that the permanent results that they sought will be met. Implant-supported dentures offer a stronger bite than conventional dentures, giving patients more confidence in tackling their favorite foods.

What is the process of getting dentures?
Prior to getting dentures, we’ll perform any tooth extractions if necessary. After the healing is complete, we’ll fit you for your restoration by taking an impression of your upper or lower arch. You’ll decide on the shade, shape, and size of your new smile. We’ll send the information to a lab to create a plastic mockup of your new dentures.

Once we receive the mockup, you’ll try them on and provide any feedback if changes need to be made. Otherwise, the lab will set your dentures in acrylic and we’ll make any last adjustments at our office.

If you develop any sores, it’s important to schedule an appointment by calling our office at (616) 942-9595. We may need to adjust the fit of your dentures.

Can you sleep with dentures?
We recommend that you remove your dentures at night prior to going to bed and soak them in water or a solution while you sleep. Sleeping without dentures gives your gums and bone a chance to relax from the pressure of the denture during the day. Wearing dentures at night can double the risk of pneumonia in elderly patients.
Are dentures or dental implants better?
While they both are solutions to replacing missing teeth, the process and longevity differ.

Dentures are a more affordable solution. Within a few visits, you can have any number of teeth replaced. There’s virtually no recovery time or procedure necessary.

Dental implants are a permanent tooth replacement option. They look and feel like your natural teeth. Best of all, they can last a lifetime. Dental implants are surgically affixed to your jaw, therefore there is a period of recovery following the procedure.

If your smile is missing teeth, schedule a consultation with one of our dentists by calling (616) 942-9595. During the consultation, we’ll review your oral health and provide you with information about the different procedures so you can make the decision that best fits your lifestyle.

How long do dental implants last?
Dental implants are designed to be a permanent tooth replacement option. With proper care and maintenance, dental implants can last a lifetime. To ensure the longevity of your new smile, we recommend brushing twice a day, flossing daily, and rinsing between meals.

In addition to maintaining a healthy oral hygiene routine, you’ll want to schedule biannual cleanings and checkups at our Grand Rapids location. During this appointment, one of our dentists will examine the health of your gums and dental implants to ensure your oral health is in excellent shape.

Are you missing multiple teeth or a full arch of your smile? Robson Family Dental offers a number of full mouth restoration options, tailored to your smile and unique needs.
